New Zealand artist Hemi Hemingway has revealed his new single, ‘This City's Tryna Break My Heart’. It’s an effortlessly slick track that brings together his collection of influences that range from the 50s to the 80s, all combined over a pulsating, drifting bass line topped with his instantly recognisable voice. “I wrote this track around 8 months after the breakup of a 10-year relationship. Somebody new was interested in me, and I was aware of it. But I was also dubious, guarded and nervous to reciprocate feelings. I was concerned that I had barely begun my grieving journey from my last relationship, and this attention was stirring up a lot of silt, so to speak. I was trying to figure out just what I could give to this person, when all of a sudden my phone stopped lighting up.” Hemi Hemingway is also releasing his new album, Wings of Desire, which drops on February 20th, 2026, via PNKSLM. -Dan Peeke
